Images can appear a strange (or unexpected) colour online because the images have been saved with a colour profile that is not optimised for the web. This article explains why we recommend uploading sRGB images.
Why you should use sRGB
Images on the web should be saved as sRGB to retain their vibrancy once uploaded. This can be done in the Photoshop Save for web option. You can also run a batch process to save a whole folder of images with this colour profile. Other photo editing software will also let you make this adjustment.
This will ensure reliable colour reproduction in downloaded documents, we tend to advise clients to use images exported with the sRGB colour profile.
Having said that, it does make sense to take the original photo with a wide gamut colour profile such as Adobe RGB (if that setting is available on the camera) as this will produce more vibrant prints. These images can then be exported with the sRGB profile for upload to the Artlogic Database.
CMYK images
Images uploaded with the CMYK colour profile for print can produce particularly strange results - with colours that appear inverted. Again, we recommend using sRGB images
