Layout options and image recommendations
You can switch between 'Standard' and 'Full-bleed' layouts in Settings > Sections > Homepage. In this article, we'll describe the difference between these two options and what images are best suited to either one.
Full-bleed homepage images
Full-bleed images completely cover the screen or an area from edge to edge. Because our websites are responsive, this given area can be any number of sizes or proportions, depending on the device or monitor.
Edit how your slideshow images display in Homepage Settings
CMS > Settings > Homepage > Slideshow type > you'll have the following options:
Image recommendations
Full-bleed homepage images should be at least 1600 x 1000px, but should ideally be 3200 x 2000px or larger to cover you for any upscaling for retina devices.
As a general rule, horizontal or ‘landscape’ images work better on your homepage than vertical or ‘portrait’ images.
The images will intelligently react to this and always fit the specified area.
On desktop
On a desktop machine, full-bleed homepage images will probably appear in landscape format.
On mobile
On a mobile device, the same image will be viewed in a narrow portrait format.
Rule of thumb
The best rule of thumb to follow is that images with important content in the centre work best, as this ensures that this content is always visible. Try to avoid using images that place important content too near to the edges.

Standard homepage images
Standard homepage images should be at least 1600 x 1000px, but should ideally be 3200 x 2000px or larger to cover you for any upscaling for retina devices.
As a general rule, horizontal or ‘landscape’ images work better on your homepage than vertical or ‘portrait’ images.

Setting a slideshow fallback image
Steps
- Log into your CMS.
- Go to Pages.
- Select the 'pencil' (edit) button for Home.
- Scroll to Slideshow fallback image and upload an image here.
Why this is important
Fallback images will only be used in the event that there are no slideshow images, such as the transition period between exhibitions where there are no current or forthcoming exhibitions live on your site.
If you've opted to display your current and forthcoming exhibition records on your homepage and for any reason there are no live current or forthcoming shows on the site (perhaps the gallery is closed over summer for several weeks) your homepage will be empty.
A fallback image will display on your homepage in this above-mentioned instance.
Showing a video on your homepage
If you'd like to show a video on your Homepage instead of images, see this article on adding videos to your website.
