Segment your artworks
Set up Categories so that your Artworks page is segmented by medium, period, region, or however you wish, to group and display your artworks on your website. If you have an integrated website and database Artlogic plan, click here to categorise your site.
Set up categories
First, log in to your Artlogic website CMS and make sure you have enabled Artwork categories: CMS > Settings > Settings > Artworks > turn on 'Enable artwork categories'.
Steps
1. Go to Records > Artworks > Artworks categories.
2. Select 'New record' and complete all the information you'd like to display.
3. Select 'Show on website'.
Make sure to select 'Show on website' when saving to make the category visible on the front end.
4. Click Save.
The blue tick in the 'Live' column lets you know which categories are visible on the website to the public. These categories will only show on your site after you have assigned artworks to them.
You can edit each category using the pencil edit' icon that appears when hovering your cursor over each category.
Reorder your categories
Sort the order in which the artwork categories appear as follows:
- Go to Records > Artworks > Artwork categories.
- Drag and drop your categories into order using the 'Move' column.
Next, sort the order in which the artwork records appear within your individual categories here:
- Go to Records > Artworks > Artwork categories.
- Select 'View/sort artworks' to view the artworks in a category or subcategory.
- Drag and drop your categories into order using the 'Move' column.
Linking categories to artworks
Edit your artwork records to assign your artworks to a specific category or multiple categories. Here you can also decide which artworks you want as the representative image for a particular category.
Assign categories to your artworks
Next, you'll need to assign the categories you've created to the artwork records themselves.
Go to Records > Artworks > All Artworks > Edit artwork > Relationships
Here you will see two options: 'Selected categories' and 'Represents category'.
Selected categories
'Selected categories' should be used to assign the artwork to the selected category/categories shown on the artworks page. The artwork will be displayed within the category you've selected here and will be filtered as such on the artworks page.
Choose a representative image for your artwork category
In the same section as above, you will see the option 'Represents category'.
Represents category
By contrast, 'Represents category' should be used if you want to choose this artwork as the representative image thumbnail for this category on the artwork category landing page and/or elsewhere in the website where this category is displayed.
Artworks page display
You can enable a 'landing page' for your Artworks page.
This will present the visitor with images of your choice, selected to represent each category, through which they can view all the artworks assigned.
Enabling sub-categories will further segment your groups.
Assigned a 'Cover image' to your category either through an Artwork record or through the Artwork categories edit screen.
Artist page display
You can enable a 'landing page' for your Artists page.
This will present the visitor with images of your choice, selected to represent each category, through which they can view all the artworks assigned.
Artist 'Works' tab
This segmentation can also be applied to your Artist page 'Works' tab.
Go to: Settings > Settings > Artists > 'Enable artwork category filters within artist works tab'.
