If a contact record in your Artlogic database receives mailings to more than one email address and decides to unsubscribe to your newsletters, it will unsubscribe the entire contact record (and therefore all email addresses associated with the contact record). This guide explains this process in more detail and how to approach scenarios like this.
Adding multiple email addresses 'For mailing'
There are two separate Email fields within each contact record in your database.
- The first - Email (for mailings) - specifies which email addresses will receive mailings sent from your Artlogic database. The field labelled 'Main' can be used to label these addresses as you wish.
- The second - Additional emails - is a space to record email addresses internally.
Both fields can hold multiple addresses, separated by a comma. For example:
Please note that relevant Mailing Settings will need to be ticked for a contact to receive Newsletters, Sales Emails and Offers, and/or Personalised Text Emails.
What happens when an individual subscribes to mailings from more than one email address?
If an individual decides to subscribe to your mailing list from more than one email address, each subscription will create a new contact record, whether or not their name is the same. Although every email address is unique, not every name is:
How can I resolve multiple subscriptions by the same person?
The Resolve Duplicates tool offers up a list of contacts with matching names and/or email addresses. From here, you can incorporate all necessary data into one of the contact records, before deleting the spare. There is currently no automatic merge option.
What happens when somebody decides to unsubscribe?
If a contact decides to opt-out of receiving your mailings, the entire contact record - including all email addresses listed in the for mailings field - will also be unsubscribed.
To avoid this, create separate contact records for each email address.
Can you re-subscribe a contact to the mailing list?
For GDPR reasons, you cannot edit email preferences from a contact's edit page if the user has chosen to unsubscribe from some or all emails. If you have their permission you can edit their email preferences by clicking the this page link under the NOTE: This user opted out of all emails on ... notification in the contact's Contact tab.
This link will take you to a page that allows you to customise the contact's preferences.
You are not able to do this as an Update Multiple action.
